Pros

Ready-to-use automation triggers eliminate repetitive tasks.

While workflow automation features can be a huge help for teams looking to streamline tasks, setting up automation triggers can be intimidating. For users looking to automate tasks without spending hours establishing custom triggers, monday.com offers premade automation trigger templates for numerous task actions. The template options are numerous, covering everything from moving tasks to creating new ones, and even moving assignments along to the next team member as they’re completed.

Advanced reporting and dashboards show the most relevant data.

When it comes to managing multiple projects, it can be difficult to get an overview of multi-project data and analytics. With monday.com’s dashboard reporting features, users can create dashboards that pull data directly from one or more project boards. By selecting add-on widgets to the dashboard, users can select multiple dashboard views based on the data they want to access, from task completion progress, budget tracking, and even team workloads.

Multiple ways to filter tasks help you drill down to details quickly.

Sorting through project boards with seemingly endless tasks can make it difficult to find what you’re looking for. Whether you’re looking to isolate your own assignments, view teammates’ workloads, or access tasks based on priority or due date, monday.com allows multiple task filters, making it easy to find exactly what you need. Moreover, you can favorite filtered task views for quick access to the views you need on a routine basis.

Numerous ways to show tasks give team members lots of visualization options.

You often never know what tools you’ll need to complete a project until you’re in the middle of it. That’s where project management software comes in to help you build and expand your project management toolbox. When it comes to visualizing deadlines, task sprints, and projects at large, monday.com offers users flexibility in choosing what view represents each project best. Timeline views, kanban boards, charts, and list views are just some of the layout options you can choose from, making monday.com a flexible visualization option for all users.

Colorful and intuitive dashboard makes progress easier to visualize.

Compared to most other project management solutions on the market, monday.com offers one of the most intuitive experiences users could ask for. monday.com has a user-friendly interface with a uniquely colorful design that allows users to customize task columns, and tags, and even set the background theme coloring to light, dark, or night mode.

Frequent software updates and new features focus on increasing monday’s abilties

Growth can be a great thing – especially when it means gaining some new perks and improvement from your project management software. The monday.com team is notably tuned-in to user feedback, and updates and software improvements are frequently rolled out. What’s more, monday.com will email users a summary of the new features, so you can always stay ahead of the latest updates.

Cons

Non-enterprise users may encounter long support response times.

While all levels, including free plans, gain access to monday.com’s self-serve knowledge base and 24/7 customer support, many users report waiting days or even weeks to receive a response. Enterprise-level users gain access to a dedicated customer success manager which may expedite the process, but users should be prepared to wait, depending on the volume of support requests at any given time.

Broken connections across board links can cause data loss.

One of monday.com’s core functions is to link together boards, tasks, and columns to allow users flexibility when tying certain work items together. However, some users report that from time to time, these links in the system can become broken and require additional attention – potentially causing data loss.

Limited mobile app usability may create issues for mobile team members

Having the opportunity to take your project management software on the go with you is a huge perk – when it functions as expected. Unfortunately, monday.com’s mobile application is much more limited in capabilities when compared to the desktop version. The navigation of the mobile app is also more complicated than the desktop version, forcing users to scroll horizontally to navigate, limiting the task details that can be viewed at one time.

Minimum of 3 required users for paid plans.

While monday.com offers four distinct price tiers and a free plan, there’s a minimum requirement of three users for all paid plans. This can isolate solopreneurs, freelancers, and small business owners from using the platform – especially considering monday.com’s complex per-seat pricing model.

Free trial period is shorter than competitors.

Free trials are a great way to test trial a potential software solution before committing to it. Most project management vendors offer a 30-day free trial so that users can fully acclimate and explore the functionality of the app. However, monday.com only offers users a 14-day free trial – which is limited compared to most offerings.

Try Asana Instead

Similarly to monday.com, Asana is a user-friendly work management platform with a wide range of features to support teams of all sizes. Asana offers many of the same features as monday.com, with premade project templates, portfolio-style multi-project overviews, and custom fields for task organization. Additionally, Asana’s free plan offers users unlimited tasks, projects, messages, activity logging, and file storage all with the ability to collaborate with up to 15 team members – making it a great choice for small teams and solo users.
